Positioning Content
In a Document module, content (both text and expressions) can be placed anywhere in the module just by double clicking in the moduele and then creating whatever text or expression you need. Content can be dragged with the mouse to position it in a document module but content can also be connected to other content to create something that behaves more like what you would expect in a typical word processor.
Content can be connected in two different ways. You can either connect by dragging content or you can use the Convert command (select Connect expressions).
The drag modes
To connect content by dragging, it's you need to understand the two different drag modes:
Drag mode | Description |
---|---|
Basic |
In this mode, an expression can be positioned anywhere in the document module and its position won't change as other expressions and text are moved. |
Connected |
In Connected drag mode, an expression will snap below another expression or text and will be aligned both horizontally and vertically. |
You can switch between the different drag modes by tapping the Ctrl key while dragging an expression or list of expressions.
You can also switch drag modes before dragging by clicking on the Drag mode in the text editing tool bar
Connecting an expression by dragging
In order to connect expressions or text by dragging the drag mode has to be set to Connected. To connect content, highlight one or more expressions or text and drag the content to another content item. When the mouse is over the unhighlighted content an orange box is displayed around the unhighlighted content and the drag box snaps to the connected location. If you release the content now the connection is made between the content being dragged and the unhighlighted content.
Disconnecting an expression by dragging
In either drag mode, highlighting and dragging connected content will remove the existing connection. The content being dragged can either be placed in empty space (no new connection will be made) or it can be connected to a different content item.
Using the Convert command to connect and disconnect content
Content can also be connected using the Convert command and selecting Connect expression from the result list. Content that is currently connected can be disconnected using the Convert command by selecting Disconnect expressions from the result list
Displaying the connections
The connections between content items in a Document module can be displayed using the F4 key to show or hide the positioners. When the positioners are displayed you can see which content items are connected and also see which items are positioned to one of the margins.
